Friday is About Something More

If you’ve been following along with us, you’ll have seen our “Forge Friday” events. Forge Friday is our free 5:30pm fitness class open to anyone that walks through our doors. But Friday’s free workout isn’t just about getting that last workout in of the week. Friday is where we come together and crank up the intensity one more notch.

The goal on Friday is to mentally push yourself to a place you didn’t think was possible. Why? In almost anything you do, your mind will quit before your body does. Your mind will cause you to have self-doubt, to self-limit, and to hold back. Here at Storm, we train your mind to be stronger and teach yourself to believe that a task can and will be accomplished, whether it is a physical task, work related, or in your personal life.

Everything we do on Friday at 5:30 PM is done with purpose.

TIMING: Friday, 5:30pm.

It’s easy to go straight home.
It’s easy to check out early.
It’s easy to come up with an excuse.
It takes effort and commitment to come in on a Friday afternoon.

NAME: Forge Friday.
verb (used with object), forged, forg·ing.
to form by heating and hammering; beat into shape.
to form or make, especially by concentrated effort.

I came across this style fitness at Gym Jones in Utah. There, it was called F$%! Your Friday (FYF). Here at Storm, we go for a slightly more family friendly name: “Forge Friday”. During this time, we seek to forge relationships, our community, and our fitness. It is about cranking up the heat, making ourselves mentally and physically stronger, and creating lasting relationships with those around us.

The workout is designed for anyone to be able to do. Each workout is a team-based event designed to bring people together. This is a community event for members and non-members alike, free to all who are willing to give it a try. The workout is designed to push you mentally and physically to a place where doubt may exist. We come back out of the tunnel, prove to ourselves we can accomplish the work, and accelerate out.

One of the workouts may look like:

Sandbag Burpee Clean and Press + Slam Ball
Ascending Ladder, add two reps every round, until each player has reached 20 reps i.e. 2+4+6+8+10+12+14+16+18+20. *Every 4 min, 200m sprint.

P1. Work
P2. Hold Plank
P3. Rest

We seek to bring each other up during this phase. My mother could do this work out, just as someone I played college football with. Yes, she might be slower, but she is doing the same work and pushing her intensity up one more level.

I want to invite you to be a part of our community and to see what Storm is about. Fridays are a little different around here and we would love for you to be a part of it.
